VoIP is short for
Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP is the phrase used to
differentiate between standard phone calls and phone calls that are made and
received via the Internet. VoIP is also known as
IP Telephony, Internet
telephony, Broadband telephony, Broadband Phone and Voice over
Broadband. In simple terms VoIP uses a series of coding and decoding through
which you can make calls over the Internet. Both local and international
conversations can be made through
VoIP. With an adapter VoIP lets you make
calls from a standard phone, a PC and a special
VoIP phone.

VoIP has gained a lot of popularity and is used widely in most countries. In America
VoIP is currently not regulated, however in the United Arab Emirates using VoIP is
illegal while in India VoIP can be used but gateways are not allowed within the
country.

Voip hosted PBX (Private Branch Exchange)

The VoIP PBX known as IPBX is the most advanced version of PBX (Private
Branch Exchange). Of late almost all PBXs support Voice over Internet Protocol.
IPBX is the way forward as it is cheap (lesser costs for both its hardware and
software which in the case of standard telephones need constant changing),
energy-efficient,
IPBX users have no-cost call facility between them, connection
with subscribers all around the world.

Voip services

There are a lot of VoIP service providers in the market today. To make the best
of VoIP, you need fast broadband connectivity like cable or DSL, either a
telephone adapter and standard telephone or a
VoIP Phone, and a router. Some
service providers even let you carry your phone number wherever you go,
provided there is a broadband connection available. Advanced qualities like crystal
clear sound along with rates that are lower than those charged by standard
telephone service providers are some qualities that VoIP provide. Popular
VoIP
providers like Verizon, voip, Iris Data Communications, Vonics, Packet 8, Cordia,
ECR Voice, and
Vonage provide standard shared hosting solutions. SKL
Services, Inc. designed their services towards the business market and provides
redundant dedicated IPBX services that can be located anywhere in the world.

VoIP is improving Internet technologies for instance applications like Google’s Click
– to Call that allows a person searching the web to enter their phone number and
speak directly over the phone, for free, to the businesses from their website.

Voip solutions

Most VoIP solutions provide CPE Gateways, High Density Gateways, IP Phones
and VoIP Terminal Adapters. In order for the solution to work the client must
enable
QOS (Quality of Service) procedures on their network. This will insure
superb
voice quality for the client.

Voip trunks

Voip trunk is an interface through which run-of-the-mill telephonic service (POTS)
device like standard telephones and fax machines can be used over an IP network.
In the past a main dilemma faced with VoIP is the non-transmission of faxes.
Technology is improving with special VoIP trunks faxes can be transmitted via the
Internet.

Caller ID feature is available with all
VoIP connections. A big success with
frequenttravelers, tourists, business flyers, migrant workers and expatriates as
VoIP can fill the vacuum of non-availability of a permanent landline connection.
Amateur radio has incorporated VoIP by linking it via Dingotel, D-STAR, Echolink,
EQSO and IRLP. If you are looking to use
VoIP technology remember to choose
a
service provider whose features benefit you and your purpose.
