How will a VoIP Phone Service benefit you?
by: Roy King

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) may at times be referred to as “Internet
Phone
Service”. This revolutionary technology will eventually replace conventional
phone systems in the future.

The Internet now provides the ability to make phone calls at very low cost or
even free. Basically, the caller's voice is converted into small packets of digital data
that are routed over the Internet using universal Internet standards, then relayed to
other computer networks to be routed to their final destination.

With the development of improved Internet bandwidth, combined with modern day
technology of audio compression and high-speed DSL lines provides VoIP services
to be able to render a high quality voice transmission, sometimes better than the
PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).

Using this new technology also allows the user to place low cost phone calls
around the world using a high speed Internet connection combined with the
software and or hardware provided by the
VoIP service provider.

VoIP service is unquestionably reasonably priced and a convenient way to combine
all of you communications together. VoIP services have been improving as modern
day technologies advances, allowing providers to offer dependable and cost
efficient service. When compared to other telephone service options VoIP service
is similar to the cost of sending email.

VoIP service providers offer various features and service plans for their
customers. Additional features can always be added to most plans providing the end
user all the necessities for their communication needs.

Small business plans are throughly available such as, multi phone users, free
fax lines, plus the ability to combine your VoIP service and web features together.
Business Call Centers will benefit from the Audio Codes enabling technology
products that are included with a VoIP service, CTI and call logging communication
boards, VoIP media gateway processors and modules.

The quality of service standard used with VoIP is regulated and monitored by a
router addressing the concerns such as exact sequencing of the voice data
packets so that the call is clear and understandable.

Normally, VOIP service is available in three modes:

ATA- An analog telephony adapter, or analog telephone adapter, (ATA) is a device
used to connect one or more standard analog telephones to a digital and/or
non-standard telephone system such as a Voice over IP based network.

An ATA usually takes the form of a small box with a power adapter, one Ethernet
port, and one or more FXS telephone ports. Users can plug one or more standard
analog telephone devices into the ATA and the analog device(s) will operate,
usually transparently, on a VoIP network.

ATAs are used by many VoIP companies selling a VoIP service, where the device is
used to replace a user's connection to a traditional telephone company. When
sold in connection with a VoIP service, the ATA is often locked so it cannot be
used with a competing service, and the user can only partly change its configuration.
Some providers do sell devices that are not locked and can be used with any
compatible provider.

VoIP calls can be placed using standard phones or IP phones.

IP phone- An IP phone (softphone) is a software program for making telephone
calls over the Internet using a general purpose computer, rather than using
dedicated hardware. Often a softphone is designed to behave like a traditional
telephone, sometimes appearing as an image of a phone, with a display panel and
buttons with which the user can interact. A softphone is usually used with a
headset connected to the sound card of the PC, or with a USB phone.

Computer-to-computer is a basic way to use VoIP when placing most long distance
calls for no charge. The user must purchase the necessary software that operates
the program. The users computer does not need to be turned on but your
broadband connection must be active to provide an Internet connection for VoIP to
operate. When using a microphone or headset your computer must be turned on.

VoIP phone service allows end users to choose any available area code, plus
enjoy standard features like call waiting, caller ID, unified messaging, directory
services and vertical-specific applications all at a price lower than they are now
paying for their traditional phone service.

Business owners also benefit from the standards set for VoIP technologies with an
open protocol allowing companies to construct their own audio applications or
purchase other applications that numerous software developers produce.

A
VoIP phone service provides huge savings for homes and businesses with saving
up to 80% off their current phone bills, plus delivers the quality of sound that
is superior to the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
